The BJJ guy's Purple belt that did MT for some years and was told by his MT instructor that he could teach basic MT and does, he's a nice smart guy.
My dad will probably go to a lesson and watch (I managed to start BJJ with out him seeing a lesson so this could be bad...) but he still wants to see some video's and stuff on the web, maybe if I showed him some lame but belivably lame videos of safe MT sparring I could be fine (their not to bad, I did play football and lacross and they want me to do wrestling) -

OK, in all seriousness, modern MMA has taken safety very seriously. I don't know how to convince mom and dad of this, other than having a conversation about what martial arts is all about. In my opinion boxers get hit in the head an awful lot more, and it shows. Even on this week's "Inside MMA" both the guest fighters came right out and said they wouldn't box!
So why are you taking martial arts, and why do your parents think you are taking it? If it is for physical conditioning or self defense, the MMA school should be the better choice. Then again my first TKD school was very involved with full contact fighting, cardio conditioning, and weight lifting, and in much the same way I suppose it's possible to have a crap MMA school. -

Bet you can't wait to move out of your parent's house, then you can go to any f-ing school you want.
Here's a pretty lame video of some teens in a kickboxing class (pardon my total newbiness wrt embedding videos). Searching "teen kickboxing class" gave a nice selection of MT-esque videos you may be able to pass off as similar to the class you want to take. Videos of actual fights, even teen fights, seemed like they could freak out mom and dad.

if they see break dancing and MT together, surely they cant think MT is actually effective.
