No joint locks on a standing opponent? That's one lame rule, but other than that it looks good. Will Bell be fighting? If so, will it be in infinite heavyweight, where he'll get to outweigh the smallest of his opponents by fifty pounds or so?

It would be great to have a tournament like this in NYC! Have the promoters considered using the standard HIMA/USAWKF lei tai/san shou weight classes?

    1. 120-129
    2. 130-139
    3. 140-149
    4. 150-159
    5. 160-169
    6. 170-179
    7. 180-189
    8. 190-200
    9. 201-225
    10. 226-UNLIMITED
... also, JP's recommendation of a 30-second time limit for groundfighting is much more sensible than the proposed 10-second limit.

I just hope they're willing to take suggestions on that score.

30 seconds would discourage the lay-and-pray mentality while also forcing some fast, rapid grappling, which we all like to see.

And then at least if there's the fuckery that is stalling for a stand-up, it doesn't go on forever.

RE: standing locks: While it might be a lame rule, it will certainly keep the accidental injuries to a minimum.

Seriously though...the weight classes are fucked.

187 lbs. against 250 lbs. is going to be murder...

Unless they're not anticipating drawing any competitors that heavy.

Is there contact information for this organization, Phrost? Like, a place for potential competitors to ask questions like this?

Aside from the email for registration, that is.

I wish all promotions did weightclasses like that.

Nothing wrong w/10 sec rule for ground in a CMA tourney. It just means your throw has to be CLEAN if you expect to finish the fight with one.
Calm down, it's only ones and zeros.

I agree with Tom. I like what Bell is doing and should be applauded for taking the right steps to win back some of the respect that CMAs have lost over the years.

My only concern would be that he is using this tournament to showcase his students and school and that decision outcomes will go almost entirely in their favor. But we'll have to wait and see once the vids become available. I personally am very excited about this and wish I was in NY so that I may attend.
