OP, I feel your pain. While I have yet to deign anybody worthy enough to carry my seed, I do have two younger siblings, a 9 year old boy and 12 year old girl. They were both doing Tang Soo Do at my old place, the same place I left because it became Bullshidofied. At the time, I was happy that they wanted to do something with MA, and even if it is tappy-tappy point fighting, the training at the school is still great for fitness/coordination/flexibility. I just made sure to help them understand the difference between a point-earning kick and a WTFPain kick afterwards, and frequently fought with them using a less restrictive ruleset.

Fortunately, my brother (the nine year old), has come to love BJJ, a love he discovered from our rough housing and resultant armbars/chokes he'd receive. Unfortunately, my sister has been completely inundated, and now believes she has t3h d34dlys in her feet. Despite sparring with her, showing her things beyond the TSD scope that greatly improves her fighting skills, and constant debate, she refuses to acknowledge that maybe, just maybe, the TSD school is no good for real fighting.

Right now, my brother is going to a nearby BJJ place, and while it may sound kind of fucked up, I hope he and my sister get into a fight soon. Once the RNC sinks in, hopefully she'll start to understand. I have no problem with her attending the school, I just don't feel comfortable with her thinking she can kick anybody's ass with sidekicks alone.
