I don't think Mr. Genki would have retired early if that fight wasn't a sham and we would still have a bunch of awesome walk-ins of him.

How come you didn't mention Spinks/Inoki??

I think Ali had more popularity and because of his performances in and out of the ring he was able to convince lots of people that he embodied a great boxer; one that could represent boxing as a whole in style vs style matchups. Beating Ali in an early MMA match would have a greater effect on the average Joe than beating Spinks. I know Spinks beat Ali, but I don't think he went on to achieve the same notoriety of Ali. Having said all that, this is before my time and is just my speculation. Also I've heard that Spinks/Inoki was staged (I don't know, I haven't seen it), while Ali/Inoki was a real contest (sort of).

Gene LeBell was the referee for the Ali/Inoki match.

I can tell you first hand that no one was really trying to win that one.

Mine? Superfight, UFC 5. Royce fights Severn as planned.

Meaning the Royce Gracie who showed up to fight that night, faces the Dan Severn who showed up to fight that night...

WTF? Simple, Dan was clueless, but lasted longer than anyone else had against Royce in UFC 4. He would have destroyed Royce if they had fought in the superfight for UFC 5, and the Gracie legend dies then and there.

Clueless in striking and submissions but still had a strong wrestling base and outweighed Royce by almost 100lb so i'm not sure a loss to Severn would have killed the Gracie legend. If Royce had fought the Ken Shamrock of UFC 5 in UFC 1 then the Gracie legend would never had started in the first place.
