This goes along with what Der was saying about Taekwondo being dead and stagnant, it spends so much time with step sparing, board breaking, and forms that little time is spent where it matters the most. Free sparring.

    You said it perfectly

Just remember to properly telegraph that slap & select the proper block & counter for it.

    It's all in the selection:

If he comes at you with a mom-tong ji-lu-ki, then close the distance, pick him up and slam him headfirst on the dojang floor.

On the other hand, if the attack is, say, an up-chuck-ee, then close the distance, pick him up and slam him headfirst on the dojang floor.

    See? The variations are endless.

One more thing: I actually dont like our sparring. I feel i am learning to pull my techniques and they become powerless. Luckily i dont listen to my instructor 'bout that, but then again... nobody wants to spar me either.

Im thinking once i get my black belt i'll go train ju jitsu instead. Sounds like a good plan right?

I believe it's correctly spelled 'Ap cha gi' or front kick.

If jiu jitsu interests you and if you have the motivation to learn it than yes. If you’re doing so because JJ is one of the popular martial arts on this forum and you think taking it will make you a “kewl kid” than no.

Sounds like a waste of your time and money.

If you are not in a Taekwondo school that is teaching you pragmatic fighting skills based on alive methodology, leave it for a school that will, no matter what art it is.
