Somerset Sambo runs a single 2 hour class every week, its sister club, Somerset Jiu Jitsu Alliance, also runs a further 2 nights of JJ, but is held at different venues. Somerset Sambo runs out of United Dojos in Taunton - http://www.uniteddojos.co.uk/ - You can go to other classes at the dojo, just the sambo class, sambo and JJ in its sister club, etc. there's a number of different combinations. Somerset Sambo is also a member of the Dynamo Network under Vadim Kolganov - http://www.dynamosambo.co.uk/

Sambo instruction is given by Gary Davies, an instructor trained under Vadim Kolganov.

Training is mainly in sports sambo, so we dont focus on chokes our submissions that are not allowed in the rule set. These are taught, just less regularly. We do some combat sambo work as well, though again this is less regular. Training usually follow the format of: warmup, instruction based on a movement/technique, then rolling. Rolling can be from a set ground position (in guard for example), from the knees or from standing, or can be limited to specific submissions (leglock wars is an example we do). This will generally take up the last 30 - 45 minutes of class. Atmosphere is great, classes are small and everyone is there to help each other. I've been the spazzing noob there now for a while and get a lot of help and pointers from other members.

Price per session can vary depending on how you want to pay for it. You are able to pay per class with no contract, but to get the cheapest classes you can sign up to a 1 year contract at £20 a month.

Vadim Kolganov is a Master of Sport, British Gold Medallist, World Sambo Bronze Medallist, Moscow State Champion, Russian Coach of Sambo Wrestling, Central Academy of Sport, Moscow 1986 - 1991 and was featured on The History Channel series; The Human Weapon
