That looks like a good stickfighting helmet. How much is one of those? I used to use a similar one, sure is loud when you get hit.

$140 ish. Plus a little extra for the welder to tighten up the grill. Expensive, but it's really comfy and stays on my head well.

I friggin hate the wekaf style ones, which have a great grill, but little protection on the side and back. My biggest gripe is that they spin around or pop right off if you get checked in the face or punched. I don't have a huge chin, so they just spin wickedly on me.

Haven't screwed around with fencing masks, but that gap at the back of the head scares me.

And with a lacrosse helmet, you can headbutt. ;)

Got my 3 weapon saber fencing mask. I love it. Way less smothering than the kendo helmet. Still trying to put it to good use. The guy I train FMA with dosen't seem as interested in beating/getting beaten with sticks. So I started showing a buddy of mine some stuff so I'll have someone to fight. Right now I just mainly work contact drills with the guy and have him attack while I defend, he still has a long way to go. I'm thinking of posting some of my vids trying it out, but they're all cell phone vids around 2 min each, i'm trying to figure out how to merge them all into one "compilation" video so I can get some feedback.

for helmets it probably goes like this
Custom jobs like Codos' > 3 Weapon Fencing Mask > WEKAF > Kendo.

as far as padded sticks goes. I'd go ATF (allthingsfilipino) which use rattan cores. if you want something pretty close to live stick. otherwise. SMAK stik is something that hurts/stings/can sorta bruise but won't **** you up. and actionflex is... well a pillow stick. you'd be better served buying a pool noodle.

    ATF > SMAK > Actionflex/Pool noodle

There's some new actionflex sticks that are a little more rigid than the regular ones. They're a step above those crappy PVC core padded escrima sticks. The kids love em.

On a related note, my friend's little brother took my kendo headgear to make a bunch of dumbass videos showing the strength of the kendo headgear:

The new ones look like basically the design of the SMAK sticks. Which I now only use for low-intensity, absolutely no gear sparring(ok, maybe eye protection).

You need to do some Iron Junk training if the smak stiks more than mildly irritate you about the nether regions.

Apparently I'm a sissy because I've been crumpled by a good actionflex whack to the nethers. My junk needs some more iron or something.
