Hard to walk the circle when your opponent is closing the ring off...

To be fair many fighters do. The problem is you shouldn't suck so bad if you are going to run your mouth.

Someone help me out here. Being a ground guy I'm trying to put the pieces together. I can hear somebody yelling "Walk the Circle!" repeatedly, but without any other advice/instruction. Is that akin to Matt Serra's "Breathe Drago...Breathe!....Nice!" as far as not particularly helpful information in the middle of a fight?

It seemed like Mao had a whole lot of problems in this fight (as in, he clearly had no business fighting this guy) apart from not "walking the circle".

Truthfully? Most idiots spew that who don't understand Bagua. They think you are supposed to literally "walk the circle" while fighting.

No be warned somebody will pop in and spew some ignorant clap trap.

As IIF notes, circle walking isn't fight stuff, it's solo training stuff:

    YouTube- Baguazhang Circle Walking pt1 (Postures 1 - 3 of 8)

At the risk of being way too fair, it could be a stand-in comment for "Move, don't stand in front of him." Indeed, it was good advice too. Maoshan should have moved. Out of the ring, onto the subway, and then off to his house where he could dream of gongfu glory another day.

Interesting. I can see why somebody would use that as shorthand for "move your stupid ass in another direction and stop getting hit".

On the other hand, considering the obvious disparity in skill and fitness I don't know that it would have made any difference whatsoever. But, I suppose as a corner man/coach you can only do so much for somebody in the middle of the round so telling him to move might be as good as it was going to get. But yeah he looked terrible, and his training video didn't really look much better...and no, I'm not surprised he had a ring vs. street excuse ready to go.

See and that's why you don't give it the benefit of the doubt. A legit coach who competes in Sanda Sanshou Letai or anything will say basically the same thing as a Judo, Boxing, or competitive sport coach.

Yes, there are a select few that may use that terminology but, it is rare. I'll err on the side of a fucknut.
