Jeet Kune Do in Inside Kung Fu

In the current issue of Inside Kung Fu, theres an article by Jerry Poteet about what jeet kune do is and what it isnt. I've been blasted before for saying amateur wrestling, and karate cant be someones *Jeet Kune Do* because they manipulated a few philosophical quotes. Its a pretty good article that blasts about 90% of Jeet Kune Do schools basically saying there bullshit. I dont take Jeet Kune Do anymore, but its a good article if you want to know what Jeet Kune Do is.

I dont take JKD anymore, i take bjj and mt in albany new york, but i cant figure out how to change my damn thing above my name because im slightly computer illiterate.

    Vulgar,

If you could post a synopsis and you thoughts that would be fantastic. I've worked with a few JKD guys and would love to hear your experiences.

    Also, about your style field
    -Login
-Click "User Control Panel" (top row of little links, far right under the google ads)
    -Click "Edit Profile"
-Primary style is the second field down.

Inside Kung Fu is probably the worst fucking magazine ever by the way. Just to avoid confusion I didnt buy this piece of crap, i looked through it at my local sporting goods store, i saw the usual ads for systema, and tiger death ninjer kung fu, and ads to buy Numchcuks, all over the place.

Then what are your thoughts on JKD v. BJJ/MT?
    Similarities?
    Differences?
Does your JKD training aid your MT/BJJ at all?
What was a typical JKD class like?
Who was your instructor certified under/was your instructor certified?

Just some questions... if you don't want to answer thats fine I'm just curious.

This is kind of a pet peeve of mine. JKD IS NOT A STYLE!! It is a philosophy. As a matter of fact, it's pretty much the same philosophy of just about everybody on this board. People started "teaching" JKD to capitalize on Bruce Lee's name.

And yes, Inside Kung Fu is a fuckin joke.

I'm going to check this out the next time I'm at the book store, but it's pretty much a guarantee the article is going to be full of ****.

    Jkdchick,

I think that Dr. Professor Reverend Poteet is saying
that only those who study, copy and perpetuate that which
the d34d l33 taught in his super-long life span of 34 years
is THE JKD. For guys like the Right Reverend Poteet, JKD
is only the techniques taught by the d34d l33 and that
is it. I think Chris Kent says the same stuff too.

Honestly, I don't give a crap. Never did I judge my worth or that of my
instructor's based on comparing us to BL. I don'teven like Bruce Lee
quite honestly. That might be a shock to some, so I'll say it again:
    I don't like Bruce Lee.

    What is the OP's issue?

Either his issue is the aforementioned, or he can't figure out
how to change his style field. Or he's saying the Inside Kung Fu
isn't even suitable as toilet paper.

Hope all is well in Canada.

p.s. if anyone wants to argue about the definition of JKD, I'm
    not interested.

From Jeet Kune Do Conversations (2001): Q. So, jeet kune do is not just a combination of different martial arts? A. (Poteet) I once asked Bruce's permission if I could use one energy drill in kenpo. He wrote me a note, saying "A gerden of roses will yield roses, a garden of violets will yield violets." This is what Bruce thought about mixing styles. Its crystal clear, isn't it?" (227)

IMHO, any JKD oldtimer that says that JKD is only what Bruce Lee used to do, must have Alzheimer's. How could they have actually have trained with BL and forgot everything he said and wrote about a style and artist having to evolve? Man, did they forget about him shutting down his school's so he could teach JKD as a personal philosophy to individual students instead of as a commercial martial arts style for the masses?

The place I trained at was basically MMA with FMA on the side. That's where I see the art going. Espicially what the Dog Bros. are doing.

Oh well, any JKD article that isn't by Terri Tom sounds good right now. Seriously, **** her.
