    Kettlebells

    Looking for input on kettlebells.

    Early 2003 some here were discussing - specifically Vargas and Wastrel.

    Have you guys stuck with them. Hows it going ?

    Has anyone else caught the Kettlebell love ?
    (or the hate?)

    I've mentioned a few times here that I'm a fan of Pavels work, and own most of his books. In the past Kettlebells were something I'd ignored due to enormous shipping cost to Australia. I was always intrigued though.

    However, I've found some guys that are making them down here and so suddenly they have become affordable
    (well in comparison to buying them from the US anyway...)

    I've ordered 1, 16kg bell to start with.
    Should be at my door by mid next week.
    I bought Pavels ebook 'Russian Kettlebell challenge' as well so get an idea of the basics.

    Any tips/pointers/advice/encouragement or heckling appreciated. If anyone can suggest some combat and/or grappling orientated routines, that would be much appreciated.

    Thoughts ?

    If I use them, can I be as big and muscular as you?

    Is it true that they never "settle in" and force more muscles to work than traditional type weights? (kind of like a gyroscope effect?)

    I've been working with KBs for about 9 months now. It is a really good adjunct to martial arts, and probably the best fitness routine going for the money.

    I have run off no less than 6 soldiers from my office who were thought to have been in quite good shape. They tried the KB and it ate them alive...

    It is a rough workout. The best advice I can give you is to train through the initial pain. After the first workout, you'll hurt like hell. Rest a week. Come back and do it again, maybe twice that next week. By the third week, you should be able to do it three times, and stick with it after that.

    The gains are seen right away, and I can't recommend Janda situps enough.

    Stick with the program and you'll be amazed at the results.
