    Intelligence in military

I am thinking of joining up in some part of the military, and I was hoping someone could give me personal insight in what it takes to do intel. I do not know much, honestly, but I am reading up as many books as possible and asking family and instructors of mine who were in the military in various branches (e.g., marines, navy, air force).

    Thanks in advanced.

Have you taken the ASVAB yet? If not, stop asking questions and start preparing for the test, because you're going to need to rock it if you want to do intel.

Not claiming any expertise here, but I think it will help to know how old you are, where you are in school (high school, college, neither) whether you are talking about being an officer or not, and which branch of the service you have your eye on.

What WarWheel said. Go take the ASVAB and if you're smart enough for additional screening, they'll give you more tests.

Also totally depends on your eyes and ears. If you're colorblind your only option is linguist, if you've got any kind of hearing problem, you'll probably luck out and not get linguist.

I don't wanna give away too much (lol) but I am a senior about to graduate with a degree in philosophy.

My hearing and eyesight are 100%...better than anyone else I know at least.

I was planning on being a lawyer and acing the LSAT (I still do the logic games on there), but what kind of test is the ASVAB (yeah I can and will look it up too). Tips/suggestions?

I am not sure about the military at this point because i basically would ONLY want to do intel.

Just apply directly to an agency, but don't limit yourself to CIA or NSA. Look at them all including the individual military branch agencies. All of them are hiring like crazy right now and it shouldn't present too many problems for you to land an entry level position.

You have a very similar background (and hobbies, lol!) to what I had when I took the ASVAB. I was offered intel (linguist) right off the bat with a pretty nice $$ incentive to do so. Don't ask yourself if you are "good at languages", ask yourself if you would be good at linguistics. That's what they seem to be testing for.

What's your philosophy background like? More to the point, what's your Analytic Philosophy background like? Feel free to ignore any of these questions on a T.M.I. basis, but it would be helpful to know if you have had

    a) More than 1 semester of (Symbolic/Mathematical) Logic
    b) any Philosophy of Language
    c) any Philosophy of Science, Mind, or supporting Cognitive Science.

    So far, so good.

So in your opinion a class on Foucault would not be applicable to working in the intelligence field?
