Now I heard that from a friend so I don't know if that is true. It makes a good story and I'm not even sure Matt will admit to it if it is true. But his military career shouldn't be questioned (I'm not talking about his martial arts claim in the military). He's a US Marine trough and through.
Your only knowledge on the guys military career comes from what he told you. At this point, other then that he was in the Marines, almost every other contention he makes about his service is unconfirmed. That especially concerns his involvement with the Grady rescue.

I know. I would like to see this thing solved too because it would help our organization as well. Matt has his heart in the right place I think, but he gets caught up in things like he has said on the open letter to matt morton thread.

That is true. But from experience we have found out that usually when he talks about his military career it is true, maybe a little embellished, but always a grain of truth. I do not know though because you're right I only know what has been said by him.

Its just hearsay.
Wait, is that 1st Dan in Judo, or 1st Dan in Hapkido in acknowledgment of the Judo rank?

Do you mean the "Ooops, I woke to the wrong whistle" story?

yeah that one. his story went that while he was in the air force a friend of his stood in the wrong line and wound up getting into a plane filled with airborn.

so after he was in the air and figured out that he was surrounded by airborn soldiers and freaked out because he was technically AWOL, he was given a parachute and a quick lesson in how to use it, and then spent the next month as part of airborn infantry until he could get back to his airforce unit.

you should hear his story about slitting a nazi's throat with a bayonet stolen off another dead nazi*.

*my grandfather only served in the pacific.....

EDIT: my dad tells the same bayonet story about the republican guard from the gulf war.

My dad told a story about being stranded in Shanghai in 1949. He was in the Navy but got left behind. He got out.

Actually, he didn't talk about it until just before he died.

It wasn't an adventure story. He wanted understanding, and forgiveness. I gave him both without reservation. If he had not done what he did, I would not exist.

That's how a real story sounds.
