I don't know why I got that reaction either. You are correct that I made the comment to point out how far from a black belt Mr. Morton is, not to question Mr. Tripp's ability to distinguish a black belt from a newbie. Some people just won't put in the effort, so they are not able to achieve the rank. Mr. Morton strikes me as the type who wants something for nothing (obviously). No matter what an instructor does for this type of person, they won't ever earn a black belt. It is his attitude towards achievement that is so far from a black belt.

In context of some other necro's you've made lately, it is not hard for anyone objective to see why I would reasonably feel you were speaking to my credibility to grade/validate him. If this is not the case, then no problem.

personally i'd say nage waza is just as interesting.
good nage waza skills make newaza absolete in ' a real fight' thus keeping your shirt from ripping or getting dirty! ;-)

uchi komi training is awesome for cardio and to home your skills.
3 or 4 years ago i did uchi komi and randori with a dude who was from the kodokan and he taught me a whole new insight of how to approach throws.
i've never looked at an o soto gari the same, befre that i jus considered it a lowly basic throw.

There is a Matt Morton who recently joined AikiWeb and claims to be a black belt in aikido and a former Marine released via medical discharge. Could be a coincidence though.

I was in the Marine Corps, released on a medical discharge. I earned my black belt from John Thurston Sensei while on active duty.

FWIW, John Thurston appears to be an 6th Dan Uechi-ryu krotty guy.

Nothing on Google about an Aikido John Thurston. Not that this necessarily means anything.

But seriously, I would not be surprised one bit if this is, "Mr. Third Leg" himself pretending to have rank he hasn't rightfully earned. I can only hope he doesn't start this crap again, but this is what Bullshido.net is for, isn't it?
