    Where do you train?

    Who is your coach?

Who certified his ranks? Who are they with?

IMHO there are a few errors in the Seoi and O goshi as described. Before I comment, I want to know more.

For now, in over 50 years of Judo I have never heard the term "third leg" and the position he is asking you to take allows uke to easily block the throw.

OK, I've only been doing Judo 1 tenth of the time Mr Tripp has, but I have never heard of this term, nor have I been taught anything remotely like it in the context of seionage and O Goshi.

OK Mr. Tripp, I sent you a PM for your response.

To answer your question NW: I believe this term actually came from my TKD school's HKD class. I can recall learning many "grab my wrist" techniques that had me use this principle, most memorably for throws and breaks. There was one technique where I broke my opponents grab, stepped in like I was going to do a seoi nage, but used this "third leg" to plant his arm on my shoulder for a break, and theoretically after the break, was to throw him.

The man who tuaght me judo, if I remember correctly, had learned HKD informerly for years, and was quite the enthusiest when it came to HKD.

    I thought as much.

The concept is poop, it simply will not work.

Joint locking then throwing is a part of Judo, just not studied much. However, the concept is to lock the arm then throw. Not, lock the arm, then make a poor throwing attempt.

Thank you, Mr. Tripp. I'll make sure to bring this up with the judo club I am going to visit this Thursday so they know that there is some bullshido being taught and passed off as judo.

I will still try to get pics or vids up ASAP for those that are still lost on the subject of the "third leg" principle

    Sincerely,

    ZoA.

I'd like to see it, just because I can't imagine how it's meant to look.

If he came from Hapkido it's quite likely its a bastardised aiki stylee koshi nage rather than o-goshi.

I will say again, this Judo teacher, who claims black belt rank, needs to have papers from one of the big three.

Without them, he is just another Bullshido expert at a TKD school.

I checked out some koshi nage, and it does look somewhat similar to what I was shown, but not the same. I'll post a video or a picture up this week to show what I mean.

Never heard of that term either. I would be highly suspect of his Judo rank and training if I heard that. I appears that if that was being taught you would see a lot of torn shoulders and back muscle injuries.
Judo is only gentle for the guy on top.

Even so in koshi you still need to have your legs inside his, regardless what technique you add koshy to.

I think he is reffering to stuff like the 2 uberlauffen (beginning of te vid) or the 1st ringen am swert (1:58 2:00)
    YouTube - Stage Escrime médiévale Lille 2009 - 2ème Session - partie 4

basically when the guy is reaching and surging forward
In the video case because he need to get the point off line and want to prevent the schnitt to happen.
If there is no weapon, I do not see the need to rush like that.

Sorry the vid is very slow and sloppy but they just took the bit where I explained some particaular bits so it is a very disjointed and I often end up out of place.
but I think it is what he means by 3rd leg and having one leg outside
