calling the punches yes, but i doubt he would call blocks.

"jab, jab, BLOCK!", that certainly wouldn't train his reactions

I've hated Shaq ever since I realized he was even worse than me at free throws despite being a professional basketball player. I look forward to the day Choi destroys him.

Be careful posting videos of you training in bullshido. People will watch mere minutes of you training and completely judge you on whatever mistake you were making. Oh! that guy doesn't have a perfect boxing form! he is going to get destroyed!!

If I posted HMC's training video and he looked awkward and wrong, or GASP! maybe his timing on his blocks were weird, would you guys come to the same conclusion? If I posted a video of me sparring with very good form and a video of chuck liddell with his weird stance?

I just don't think videos are that great of an indicator of a fighter's skill level and even poorer indicator of victory potential. I just don't think shaq looked shitty enough that we can say he completely sucks. /bitch mode off

Still he could probably take Tim Sylvia on current form.

As the NBA does not allow fighting, but all the guys play like they are killers, there should be a talent scout at training camps. Imagine the flying knee from a Jordan type crossover, some of the big guys are not completely without potential.

agreed, but I do think you can see that his hand speed in that pads drill is subpar. that actually makes perfect sense to me--to throw a punch, he's got a long way to unwind & a huge mass to move. unless he has really superior reflexes (and having watched him for a couple of decades, I see no reason to think he does), his hands would figure to be pretty damn slow. I think any half-decent puncher would likely knock the **** out of him in standup, even a much smaller guy.

That would probably be the smarter fight for him.

Ya, in their current states I think HMC would destroy shaq in standup.
But I don't think its so bad that any half decent puncher would beat him up. Size does matter, especially in standup. And he is gigantic..

My head still hurts from the bigger guy I sparred last week, and thats just from the few glancing blows to my forehead and top of my head.

To add, the guy I sparred doesn't look good form-wise. But he puts it together pretty well. Maybe Shaq is like that.

I think Shaq was half joking in the OP's quote. He should be fully aware he needs to train hard to be a serious MMA contender. HMC would eat him for breakfast but it wouldn't be quite as embarrassing as his fight vs. Jose Canseco I predict.
