NY Combat Sambo Style: combat sambo--
Ok folks...not such great news...
I came down with ringworm after the throwdown...not suprising since it was at fighthouse (which is disgusting). Anyone else have this problem post throwdown last weekend? I know my club was closed that weekend, and I did not train there, and it appeared right after the throwdown, so I suspect I picked it up at fighthouse.
I have always been concerned about training at fighthouse due to their lack of cleanliness...the place is gross with too much turn over of people to keep clean.
I we continue to use fighthouse, I suggest pre cleaning of the mats, ring, etc...
Better yet, find another place. I doubt I will go back there now. -

I used the bleach-infested showers immediately afterwards, and have not noticed any ringworm. I have been specifically looking to make sure.
I take a good portion of the blame for not washing the mats prior to getting started; I didn't know it was SOP. Sorry, Steve. :(What a disgrace it is for a man to grow old without ever seeing the beauty and strength of which his body is capable. -Xenophon's Socrates -

i'm really sorry to hear that, steve.
considering where we meet up, i'm actually surprised this hasn't happened more often. we had 1 case 2 years ago i think, and after that i showed up with my own bleach solution and swiffers to clean the mats, but didn't keep up with it.
fight house is a problem for sure, and i'm not even sure if making a big effort to clean the mats pre-workout is going to help that much (pro grappling coaches can weigh in with their thoughts on this.)
we really only use fight house because it's the only spot we could find that was willing to let us come and have a throwdown. we haven't really tried to find a new spot, so maybe a good one can be suggested."Face punches are an essential character building part of a martial art. 1.2, no problem man...don't sweat it.
I think cleaning the mats will help if done properly. I doubt fighthouse does it. I have never seen them (or anyone there) clean the mats between uses...let alone the ring, which is really nasty looking.
I would be glad to offer my place, but I can only accomodate about 10 people. More than that and it can get crowded. My place is small, but, we can surely give it a try. -
It's all about the clinch. The clinch, I said.

In the interest of setting Steve's mind at ease, I've picked up ringworm at the fighthouse at least once.
It's a little harder to pinpoint because that **** also ran through alliance like funky wild-fire, but you get the idea.
That sucks steve, I'm sorry.Go placidly amid the noise and haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.
As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and ignorant;
they too have their story.
