    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Fighter Zack Kirk paralyzed during fight

This is a shame. MMA has avoided serious injuries since its inception. This, however, was an accident as opposed to someone being beaten into oblivion.
Scroll down to see the comments. Plenty of the "human cockfighting" crowd and butthurt TMAers

Lets all wish Zack the best.

Really sucks how many people fail to notice the danger in other sports.

Particularly the fact that this specific accident could just have easily happened in judo, or wrestling or BJJ.

But no, MMA is a bloodsport, because one guy died in an accident.

I was a little shocked. Sure, he changed sides quickly, but I guess even a dog can realize it has more in common with the wolf than with the shephard.

I give him the names of some BJJ schools in the area, and we go our separate ways.

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

Sounds like a freak accident, poor guy.

The guys banging their drums in the comments need to shut the **** up and show a bit of respect.

He can still say no deaths.

And if he wants say only ONE serious injury.

But boxing has several deaths PER YEAR!!

This reminds me of how, whenever a bunch of people get killed by some maniac with a gun, the first responses are directed toward defending gun rights, rather than meditating upon the tragedy.

The guy is paralyzed. Instead of moving right on to defending MMA, which nobody here is attacking, how about some fucking prayers?

Did you click the link and read the responses as instructed?

There are like a gazillion people doing that in the other thread (dramatisation, may not have actually happened).

Plus, since Sam Vasquez died, Dana has changed his line to "no serious injuries or deaths in the UFC." (rather than all of MMA). He can still say that.

Vasquez became the third fighter to die in an MMA bout. Vasquez joins Douglas Dedge who died in an unsanctioned Ukraine event. Dedge was unable to be medically cleared in the US due to a pre-existing heart condition. "Korea witnessed its first MMA related death at a Gimme 5 event (now known as Neofight) in 2005. The cause of death was due to brain hemorrhaging after the fight, but many blamed the death on the promotion's inadequate medical standards."

I suppose he can't really be held responsible for fight outside of the UFC, which will have different safety standards.
