<hands up/chin down>I actually thought Hughes won the fight. I don't like him, i didn't want him too, but both my wife and I thought he won.</hands up/chin down>

Of course the idea that slams should get no points is fatuous on its face.

However, your thought brings up an interesting thought...

..if he had to pull out the kitchen sink to escape, shouldn't the person who got out get something for escaping such a powerful attack?
It's an interesting point, but I think the person who got out of it gets not losing right then and there for escaping the powerful attack. Much in the same way when somebody recovers from a few big strikes, they don't get rewarded points for their conditioning or chin. They don't do they? I hope not anyway.

In some combat sports there are points for escapes.

    For more weirdness....

I remember having a very long debate at an Ohio Jujitsu event years ago over that.

If you took a head and arm (kesa gatame) you got NO points for it.

However, if you put it on, and the guy escaped, he got points for escaping.

I asked what he was getting points for? They said escaping the hold. I asked "How can it be a hold, if the guy got no points for putting it on?" They actually said, "Well its a hold, but we don't give points for it, only getting out of it."

It went like that for about 30 minutes with the BJJ/GJJ nut jobs all saying how crazy I was. Needless to say, the event was an interesting one, and I never returned.

Oh God no. Most boring fight ever. The first punch would be thrown no sooner than the fourth round.
