That's pretty much how I do it, but it only works once. When someone is expecting it they'll counter HARD. Or you could just be like me and bounce on impact :D

I once elbowed my way out of the guard, digging them into the inner thighs and bladder of the "guarder", as I felt his legs lossen I slipped under and applied a knee/leg lock ala boston crab type.
But then again I did that BEFORE he manged to "cinch" in the guard.
I once had a buddy in the guard and he power bombed me, of course he was 290 and competes in the strong man events.
Other than that, I am pretty content to wait and see what the "guarder" is gonna do.

No gi? It's hard as hell no gi. I can pick up someone 40 or 50 pounds heavier than me with the guy, and I'm weak. With a gi, you can just grab their lapels and do it. If they drop their legs as the counter to slap, you just pass guard. The official judo way is to stack them hard, put both of your hands underneath their legs, and then grab whatever. I think the most efficient way is to grab the lapels, with your hands CROSSED. So your right hand grabs his right lapel, and your left hand grabs his left lapel. That way, they can't do the drop their legs counter, and you can pick up a lot of weight and SLAM them.

I've done it without the gi (both me and my opponent), but I don't think I went above thigh height before dropping.

You wanna be a real dick? Then do this:

Stack, grab neck for canopener, pull up until you're squatting and he's off the ground. He's forced to open his legs and will expect you to pass.

Don't. Slam him down while still holding onto the canopener.

Don't bring both legs up for one...
Normally, I'd say I was grappling, but I was taking down and mounting people, and JFS has kindly informed us that takedowns and being mounted are neither grappling nor anti grappling, so I'm not sure what the **** I was doing. Maybe schroedinger's sparring, where it's neither grappling nor anti-grappling until somoene observes it and collapses the waveform, and then I RNC a cat to death.----fatherdog

Pretty much lesson one of how to break a closed guard.
