I taught school in a remote village in Africa. There were tonnes of banned books in that dictatorship country. I smuggled in the Color Purple and Uncle Toms Cabin from off of that list. I discussed with my fellow teachers American racism history, and the 'N' word, because they were completely facinated by American blacks like Mohammed Ali, and Micheal Jordan, Michael Jackson ect.

A word that was not in their vocab, became something much more relevant...and now they could understand the Rap music that was also being smuggled in, as that word has so much air time. There will never be offence of that word there, because that is not a word with historical meaning.

Where there is history...the words have meaning.

But what do I know, I'm a silly American Mazungu.
