Or, y'know, anyone with decent closing footwork. The guy seems talented, but showing off a bunch during sparing for instructional purposes seems kind of dumb, especially when the guys you're teaching don't have the timing to try the things you're doing.

Do you know what happened between those two? I have a Lynn Thompson being nutty story also: A friend of mine works for Moteng, a company here in SD that distributes cutlery, including Cold Steel stuff. Well, she went to a trade show and ended up running into Lynn Thompson on the plane. Somehow he started to talk about weapons, and he said that on planes he can't carry any of his weapons but "I still have these!" he said as he lifted his hands in standard untrained guy imitating karate chop style. That became a running joke at Moteng: whenever someone needed a knife or tool at work, someone would comment back with "I still have these!"

I stand corrected. How many gatherings did he fight in?

Don't know. Never asked. The area I'm talking about is actually local "gather" if you must use that term.

Ahh okay. I was referencing his participation at DB gatherings. This really doesn't change much as it turns out he fought at a gathering many years ago.

Does his approach to knife fighting follow a typical FMA approach?

Depends on what you think is typical. He seemed to draw very heavily on Lameco, which of course looks similar to a some of the more popular blade styles (pekiti and sayoc) in mechanics.
