Found the real Chinese ground fighting... Baxiroushu

I'm in Beijing now until mid August. I thought I'd look around for something to train in, but not that wushu stuff. (TKD is big here, BTW.) I found a nearby school that offers groundfighting--巴西柔术 (baxiroushu).

The techniques involve chokes and joint locks and everything is done on the ground. Seems like a good school and definately a good work out. We learn a technique and drill it with a partner, then there is time to grapple with different fully resisting partners.

I'll have to get some pictures up if I think to bring my camera.

That said, I hope these guys aren't going the _ing _un route of teaching crappling and then claiming it was always part of the chun.

I'm going tomorrow... I have to remember my camera!!!

So far no having to carry buckets of water uphill with our arms outstretched. Yesterday I survived a 95 kilo beast on top of me only to jam my toe between the mats during the warmdown. People look at you strange when you hurt yourself doing light jogging.

You can't be serious. Do you not speak Chinese? I'm assuming either you don't speak Chinese or you do and you're trying to pull a little joke on everyone. For those of you that don't speak Mandarin allow me to translate for you;

巴西柔术 = Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

巴西 = Brazil
柔术 = Jiu jitsu. Which is exactly the 2 characters that GSP has tatooed on his chest.

Sorry to burst your bubble you didn't find some secret Chinese ground fighting art. You just found someone in Beijing teaching BJJ. If I had to guess I would say the guy's name is Andy Wang, the man who started the "Art of War" fight promotion in China.

It's a good place. I think a number of the fighters from the Art of War promotion train there. Definitely some strong dudes...

On a more serious note, I will repeat what I have said elsewhere... that CMA doesn't have groundfighting in the way that it is known today. Maybe a few techniques that work on the ground, but not anything like BJJ.

I do speak and read a little Chinese. I'm hoping to make it a bit more while I'm here.
