Mr. DeRenzo, my "man the **** up!" remark was a strongly-worded piece of advice; that entire post was intended to give you the other perspective, and suggest how you can handle it with minimal damage to your reputation. I certainly wasn't challenging you to a duel, or some such nonsense - that is what I mean by "chest-puffing."

Regarding my "surreal" comment, you didn't even bother asking what I think is surreal. Yet you decided that I was attacking you with that remark. Are you purposely being an asshole, or is it kind of a "Tourette's Asshole Syndrome" where belligerent remarks just fly out of your mouth without your control towards people who have not directly criticized you?

Neil, regarding my bokken/bokuto statement, the last time I was in Japan I was discussing Iai and Kendo with a native Japanese who studies sword arts. She was the one who told me that. My apologies if that is not the general trend. I just figured she knew what she was talking about, due to her location of study.

I'll play. I'm on the left, helping Kamata-sensei demonstrate kata at a seminar a couple of years ago. If you pay attention, you will see differences in grip and posture between what we're doing and what your student is doing.
