Saw Dan Mc'Connell take a full power front punch to the throat from a very strong Karate Black Belt. Real Deal.
Now, it begs three questions:
1. Do katateka hit as hard as they think they do?
2. Is the throat the prime target we think it is?
3. Is there a difference between getting hit there when given time to prepare, and when you have not?

They honestly believe they can extend their Ki into their neck and keep you from choking them out.....
...don't bother, the weekend I was with them I refuted that concept very quickly.

Why would i pay someone to punch me. I could get that for free at any bar.

so what is their strategy? Being beaten up so hard so the opponent gets tired?

I bet he's crying inside.

The Combat Ki people were featured on Sport Science (sorry, can't find the video online). They had a really big guy kick the Combat Ki guy square in the nuts, with a kick that measured 1100 pounds of force. It was impressive. Sort of.
I didn't see the point, though. Getting kicked in the groin repeatedly, thousands of times over several years apparently makes you immune to groin kicks. But why would you do that? Can you still father children? Can you even get wood? That's not a part of my body that I want to desensitize.

Actually if you watch, they turn their hips up so they get kicked in the ass not the nuts.
I always joked I had to much down there to get it out of the way.
If this were real, you would do it naked, let me put your nuts on a table... well you see where this is going.

I had a run in with a Juko-Kai group back in 93 when I began my search for a jujitsu school after watching the first UFC.
They then proceed to show all the ball kicking and ability to take a punch. They tried to get me to do all that crap and even let me punch one of them in the chest. It was a disaster. I cheated and hit him in the xiphoide. He took it but I could see he was not enjoying it. I told them I train to not get hit and did not see the relevance in training that way. Seriously why?
I never did it but studied some JJJ/aikido with them until I started Judo, praise be to Kano. Thankfully I meet a Japanese exchange student that showed me the error of their ways.
Judo is only gentle for the guy on top.
