LLL is correct and you couldn't hit the face while on the ground. As for pis poor submissions, it's like they say, depends on who you meet.

"I always thought shootfighting was basically just a name for MMA.
ie. standing, clinch fighting, takedowns, G&P, and submissions.

    Is that wrong ?"
No FingerorMoon?, you are totally correct.

Shoot = real fight, show = worked fight. Hence, shootfighting is simply real fighting.
Shootfighting isn't a style, it's just a named coined by Bart Vale for his MMA organisation.
What does and doesn't go in a shootfighting match depends entirely on who runs the fight, where it is, what competition it is etc.

The club I go to was associated with the ISFA, under Bart Vale and was known as shootfighting club. We have broken associations with them, and allied with Matt Thorntons camp. So what kind of club are we labeled as now? Who cares. So does this mean a change of style? An entirely new curriculum to learn? No, because it's all just MMA.
Shootfighting is not a style practiced within MMA, it is another name for MMA.

Just decided - I prefer the term "sport fighting". Because it makes no reference to martial arts - unlike MMA - which would make people think of belts, kata, uniforms, etc. And it doesn't sound like a style, and it tells you that it's trained in a sporting environment.
From now on, my style is sportfighting :) Well, actually my style is personal, but I train in sportfighting.

    Yeah.

I just told one of my Kenpo firneds in Boston about that place. Not sure if he will actually show up, but if he does, take it easy on him. He's a really nice guy, but a bit delusional as to what works and what doesn't. The name's Val.
