    Western Martial Arts Weekend 2009

More details, including an almost complete class-list, now available at the WMAW website: http://www.wmaw.us/2009/Default.htm . WMAW is one of the two largest and oldest WMA conferences/tournaments in the US and is well worth attending.

Is anyone from here going? I was thinking of attending simply to take the Bartitsu class with Tony Wolf.

This looks like fun! And Racine is not too far away.

I'll have to mention this to my wife tomorrow - soften her up.

I don't own a sword, or anything vaguely medieval. Is that going to be ok? Maybe I could attach my 3'' pocket knife to a long stick to make a spear.

Each class descriptions lists "Required Equipment" - http://www.wmaw.us/2009/Classes.htm . Hardwood dowels cut to about 3' and 4' can stand in for learning basic single and double-handed swordplay, and a 1' dowel is a decent training facsimile of a medieval dagger; make sure to round any edges and to double-check what is required for particular classes, though. Some classes do have a small supply of spare weapons.
