Each class descriptions lists "Required Equipment" - http://www.wmaw.us/2009/Classes.htm . Hardwood dowels cut to about 3' and 4' can stand in for learning basic single and double-handed swordplay, and a 1' dowel is a decent training facsimile of a medieval dagger; make sure to round any edges and to double-check what is required for particular classes, though. Some classes do have a small supply of spare weapons.
