Self-defense: Clothing grabs are a common beginning to an assault, and they must be defeated in a real time, full power training session. The judo gi is strong enough to withstand this training as it will not tear or give way as normal clothing would. In fact, breaking grips on the Judo Gi is much harder than breaking one on your normal clothing, and makes the student more likely to be able to escape from a real world assault.

Ah, I see. Makes sense then. I still have a problem with that second picture from post 125 though because...

...and that picture looks like he's setting up a gi throw. Then again, both guys are so half assed in their stances that I can't really tell what he's setting up. For all I know, he's pointing out a ketchup stain on that other guy's gi.

What bothers me the most about this is that it casts the legitimate sport in a bad light. If one of his students gets injured doing "Judo" as part of Ju-Te Ryu then, when they talk about it, they will say they got hurt doing Judo.
Just... bothers me.

Wow. A real expert here. You watched a chopped up one minute You Tube video and now you everything about Ju Te and it's founder. OK, You dragged me to this dead horse beating so here I go. I'm the guy in the video you insulted. As an ex airborne, infantry sergeant and current 1st sergeant of my guard unit, I can handle that, I'm used to idiots trying to prove their intelligence by degrading things they don't understand. I know my form was rough, but style, grace, fluidity, and form go right out the frickin window in a dark alley with some punk who wants a piece of you. What you haven't seen is the 7 years of JuTe training and 2 years of Gracie AND Vale Tudo BJJ training I've done (I suppose those aren't legit either because YOU don't do those). I've also done a little TKD at a friends dojo (but that's not "legit" either because the instructor put in a few "Twists" in it and only trains for competition). Fact is, it doesn't matter if YOU think it's "legit", What does matter is that Ju Te students believe in it. Regardless of Mr Blackwell 's, belt color, he'd still have the same wisdom, experience, and knowledge after 30 years of MA training. Mr Blackwell never claimed anything other than state that Ju Te was his creation and stated his credentials. Unlike many other Martial arts Ju Te has no medals, ribbons, or trophies because Ju Te is not a sport, (we don't compete using Ju Te beacause we'd eventually all end up in the hospital). It is only used as a LAST resort in confronatation after all other methods of conflict resolution have failed (to include walking away). Mr Blackwell also teaches us the legal aspects of using Ju Te as well as first aid for our attackers after we're done with them. Not many MASD courses go that far, they only teach you to pulverize opponents. (that's NOT self defense). Mr Blackwell also teaches not to threaten or provoke such as your statement "Coach". As for my injury I did not "glorify" it as some other "expert" stated. I posted that video so my troops can see what happened after my absence and I don't have to answer the same question 50 times. I didn't post it to promote Ju Te's worth or any other stupid reason. That injury was caused by my foot not pivoting because it got stuck in the mat (as seen from another angle). I've recovered from that injury very well primarily because of the good physical shape Ju Te got me in. I now run 3 miles a day and will continue Ju Te. Not for a colored strip of cloth but for the knowledge I'll gain whether any one thinks it's "legit" or not. Some other "Expert" made a comment about my JDT patch and mixing Ju Te with Chiristianity. Again, read the Bible and see for yourself, it's in there. (or is Christianity not legit). Why can't a Christian defend himself? I defend myself verbally, spiritually, and physically. I don't apologize for that. Lighten up "coach". If it works for me, it's "legit" enough for me and other Ju Te students or it would not have continueed to grow. Also, if you think think Mr Blackwell is in for the money, WRONG again. It's more a matter of sharing a life skill we hope we may never have to use. A dirty rusty knife can kill you just as quick as a new shiny one. My JuTe may be a rusty knife, but with training I'm sharpening it and it's use is removing the rust.
Don't degrade things you don't understand. It only shows your closed mindedness, and ignorance. Instead study it and you may learn something after all.
Peace Be With You.

Ranked in their respective arts I bet. Poor examples.

This is a red herring. The students feelings don't matter in this thread. His Judo Rank was questioned. It has been proven false by his own website.
Again it is a JUDO issue not, what you or other students enjoy.

These credentials that include zero Judo.
He calls his self defense portion Combat Judo. So yes, he does call it something other than Ju-te.

Uh the deadly. Thank you we have never heard this before.
Yes, that is sarcasm. Yep, my guess of foreshadowing was correct. Heck we even got the "healing" aspect..

You must have missed that class.
Did you even read what you just typed?

Yet, that is exactly what you teacher is doing by saying he teaches Combat Judo. He is insulting and degrading Judo players. Close minded? Okay that's good to know.
I'll make sure all of those fat weekend warriors, that take a 3-day military course, understand that they can call themselves Combat Marines, Combat Rangers, and Combat Special Forces.
Yes, that is what you are telling these Judo Specialists. Ju-Te is Combat Judo by way of books and no real training in actual Judo.
The patronizing comment after all of the insults.
Look practice practice what you want, you are not doing judo, nor are you doing Combat Judo. That is the issue.
Thank you for your Military service.

1. Please state Blackwell's credentials for those of us that seemed to have missed them. We would all like a better understanding of his credentials. You did not seem to have any trouble stating yours. Why won't Blackwell do the same?
2. 30 years of teaching is not the same as 30 years of training. This is again the question of his credentials. With whom did he train? Where did he train? To what extent is he still training?
Simple questions that no one seems to be able to answer.
Another question is where do you do TKD?

Sorry... I was not criticizing your TKD rather wondering where you worked out as I know most but not all of the TKD guys in the area. Is it olympic style or a more traditional style?

Where in the Bible is Ju te mentioned, exaxtly?

Why? Well, this guy named Yeshua allegedly said something about “turning the other cheek”, but not a lot of Christians like to take his advice.

What is the founder of Ju-Te's Judo rank?
Who is his Judo teacher?
How long has he been training Judo and at what dojo/club?
Where is my signature?

Wow... once again I am humbled.
Guys what I am about to say is NOT a slam to anyone.
I will be doing an hour of legitimate Combat Judo at my next clinic. We MUST video and post video so that we can show the EXACT difference. It will also be woven through the entire clinic.
Until then look at this (remember those "find the difference" things in the kids books?) and tell me what you see...and do not see.

Note to Coach Josh.... without looking them up... do you know who the people in the video are?
Note to everyone; do you notice how randori/shiai taught an "adjustment" to your attackers reaction? Do notice the defense from the front grab adjusts to his reaction to the first atemi/off balance?
What else do you see?
