Piz - Great advice as far as using some light running to get warmed up. Gets blood flowing and gets your fast twitch muscle fibers hot and ready to go.
LIGHT running cannot be emphasized enough. I ended up tearning my ACL because of over training. I was trying to lean down as much as possible to prepare for a stretch of tournaments (what would have been my first in ten years). So I was running two miles on M,T and Th, F. I was doing heavy up leg workouts on Tue. and Th. (warming up on the treadmill for 10 min) and upper body workouts on M and F. And MA 1 - 2 hours on M-Th, and Sat. I was in great shape but had pounded my leg muscles so much they could no longer stablize my knees like they should.
Keep running on leg days light. It ain't worth surgery and then sitting out a year doing light forms and therapy. I about went fucking crazy. -

I run Monday through Friday morning, then I eat breakfast and stretch, then lift weights (don't lift on Wed.) And I haven't had any problems. But then again, I only do bodyweight squats (because I don't have a squat rack or a spotter...). However, I do do heavy deadlifts and they haven't had any ill effects yet..
