Yeh, I hear tabata squats are a good way to go. I also have been told that after lifting, but this could be because if you do it before, you're knackered for the lifts.
A Tabata protocol is just a modified HIIT protocol that involves less active recovery than high intensity. That is, while you sprint 30s and jog for 60s normally, in a Tabata you'd sprint 30s and jog for 15s or something. From what I hear it will kick your ass and is actually not advised unless you're already an athlete or something.
I've been doing burpee intervals. 30s burpees, 30s shadowboxing. That's one "rep." My routine, since I'm a noob still, is 2x4 with 1 minute rests in between. I don't have much fat to lose but I feel like it's working pretty well so far.
Any reason not to rotate which excercise you're doing in the tabata intervals instead of just doing squats each time?
