I can't do late July, so I'd prefer August or September.

Once the dates are finalised i will ask at my club in donegal. I suspect there will be a good few who might come along.

Just a few questions. Can someone define exactly how a throwdown works? Is it just MMA sparring/fighting or is there some instruction/rolling/other stuff also. Are the fights organised before the event or just when you get there.

Is the sparring/fighting full-on or just medium or light. Are there rounds? What rules are used?

Very simple: bunch of people meet up and spar, whatever contact level they're comfortable with. So that can mean you're basically just having a chance to roll with people outside your school (which is how I've always approached it), or you might put on some gloves and spar MMA (which is what Moose has done a few times). Entirely up to you.

I've written up previous throwdowns here, with video, if you're looking for an idea of what they're like.

Hey Cam, slidey summed it up pretty well but just to make sure you're aware of this - this is not an official competition or anything like that, its more like an open mat session where people can spar/roll under whatever rules/contact level they are comfortable with.

Now that's out of the way, you're extremely welcome to come and i'd love to have you (and hopefully some of your training partners too) there. Whereabouts do you train in Donegal?

We train in Ramelton but are officially part of Milford Ju-Jitsu.

We are just a small club. Started a few years ago because we were looking for somewhere to train MMA and there was nowhere in Donegal. We now have 5 guys fighting professionally (chaos fighting championships and strabane fight night) and a number more who do the MMA league. I did it myself last year but am somewhat old (36).

I trained with Sergio Babu 3 times over the last weekend (i think i saw you on another forum saying you did too) so we get our instruction where we can. We have a couple of blue belts (including me) and there is a purple belt who comes in every so often and who trains with our other blue belt three or four times a week.

I am sure there will be a few guys interested in coming up.

Edit: I just saw you are from Dublin. Where do you train?

That's cool man. Yeah Babu gave a class in QUB Revolution on Sunday, I was there.

Where I train? Well thats complicated :)

I started in Gracie Barra Belfast, there was a bit of a splinter group started in QUB by Waqar Ahmed who's a very good friend of mine, I kept training with him while still training at GB. That was up until last summer when I moved to Dublin for a placement year. At the minute i'm mainly training at SBG Dublin and every once in a while at Next Generation.
