Royce x Yoshida

I tried the search feature and found no topic about this, sorry if it was already posted.

Anyway, was it ok that Royce fought without his gi? I mean, from I heard he totally trashed Yoshida, and could probably do it again with or without gi, but than, some judokas popped out on the discussion and said that they had to fight again and stuff.

I dont know, I have yet to see the fight, but from what I heard and read, Royce would win anyway, but you know, my sources are all Brazilians that study BJJ, so you never know.

Whats your opinion? and btw, is the video avaible somewhere like kazaa or overnet?

About the gi... that was probably a smart move. BJJ fighters are good with and without gis, while sportive judokas are more accustomed to clothed opponents.

I don't think that the video is available on kazaa. There is a bad quality clip at www.dragontail.tk

Yoshida didn't look too great from those clips. He really needs to get better and using striking on the ground. He gets sweeped while standing in Royce's guard. It was surprising for me to hear that (and see it on the clip), because Royce was trying that the whole time during their first match and he never really even came close. Yoshida says that they'll have another match in 2004.

BJJ vs Judo is a victory for judo anyway. After all, BJJ has a lot of Judo in its veins.
Royce was smart, more aggressive, patient... he worked well. Yoshida needs some strikes - he could have fared better if he struck on the ground.

How do you figure the first statement and the second is highly debated and I won't even touch it. BJJ's focus is more on submission, therefore BJJ'ers tend to submit Judo'ers. Simple logic. You can argue back and forth on what's better, but it really comes down to different focus on using the same friggin techniques.

Don't always try to compare Olympic geared Judo (aka Sport Judo) to normal judo practice. Submission tournaments are helps in Japan also and Judoka are among the top players. I'm a Judoka and eat BJJers for lunch, brunch, midnight snack, afternoon tea, and desert.:D

One or two fights doesn't make one better than the other. BJJ does not constantly own Judoka and vicer versa.
