On the contrary there are copious amounts of videos both amateur and professional of bjj guys fighting effectively.

What we don't see are copious amounts of videos with Silat guys fighting effectively.

I appreciate that you are trying to present video evidence, since that is what we are asking, but try to objectively look at the quality of your evidence. Compare it to other videos out there and tell me if you think it is an honest assessment of a competent bjj guy.

BJJ guys do lose fights. King Mo KO'd Roger Gracie in their strikeforce fight with superior stand up skills and the wrestling ability to dictate where the fight took place. Roger is world class, so no one is saying bjj is unbeatable.

But it's a mistake to pretend the fighters in those videos are valid representations of bjj and- by proxy- that the Silat guys beating them are effective fighters.

If someone told you the silat guys in those videos were wing Chun guys or ninjutsu guys would you still hold them up as examples of effective fighting skills?

If you think that the bjj guy is not valid representation of the art that's fine.

I was just trying to post some decent silat videos I could find.
Unfortunately the one I posted happened to be bjj vs silat.

colonialism sucks, besides, the dutch are generally accepted to be the rudest among the europeans. their women are ugly, their food is horrible, they have no culture and they are usually big, loud and ugly.
but they brought us dutch kickboxing, so we forgive them.

First, I'm not a bjj guy, so I have no dog in that particular fight.

Here's my question, do you think the bjj guy in either of the videos posted is a valid representation of the style?

Not even accounting for professional fighters, take a look at footage from local tournaments, even no gi tournaments since in both cases you posted no one was wearing a gi.

And on another note, do you think either silat fighter in the videos you posted represents decent silat? What about the way either man moved outside of 'they beat generic bjj guy' looked like skilled or polished fighting? Or even silat?
