I appreciate seeing some silat practioners actually sparring, but man, that was low quality. The first fight was an epic display of slap-boxing. And, despite every single piece of demo video, where they show these awesome sequences of ground technique, whenever it went to the mats, there was nothing but useless flailing.
Where are the sophisticated positional and body manipulations that are constantly being touted? I guess they're too t3h d34dly to be used in these matches. Unfortunate, rather, since the removal of them seems to completely cripple the ability to fight. -

Not true.
I have family who fought under him.
Suck some more outta your ass why dont you?
Fail. After WWII, the Dutch even begged for the Brits and Allies support to regain back their colony, but failed. The Indonesians kicked them all at once.
Read a book, read on the internet, military it was a victory for the dutch, but as ive said before, they simpy couldnt maintain their position because the USA pulled out their support.
Also Indonesia was secretly backed by the soviets. -

Here's the problem with that argument. You've shown 2 videos, both put up by Silat guys, both with the variation of the theme 'Silat destroys BJJ.' yet in neither video did the 'bjj' guys demonstrate any measure of bjj skill.
On the contrary there are copious amounts of videos both amateur and professional of bjj guys fighting effectively.
What we don't see are copious amounts of videos with Silat guys fighting effectively.
I appreciate that you are trying to present video evidence, since that is what we are asking, but try to objectively look at the quality of your evidence. Compare it to other videos out there and tell me if you think it is an honest assessment of a competent bjj guy.
BJJ guys do lose fights. King Mo KO'd Roger Gracie in their strikeforce fight with superior stand up skills and the wrestling ability to dictate where the fight took place. Roger is world class, so no one is saying bjj is unbeatable.
But it's a mistake to pretend the fighters in those videos are valid representations of bjj and- by proxy- that the Silat guys beating them are effective fighters.
If someone told you the silat guys in those videos were wing Chun guys or ninjutsu guys would you still hold them up as examples of effective fighting skills?Last edited by BJMills; 10/05/2012 12:47pm at .
