Hell, with the mess of Silat coming out of Indonesia and Malaysia, there's really no room to talk!
    Sorry, langkah? Pukulan?

    Hari-hari datang t'rus berganti
    Arahkan langkahku kian pasti
    Hadapi semua yang s'lalu halangi
    Wujudkan mimpiku selama ini
    Rintangan 'kan s'lalu datang menghadang
    Tak mudah bagiku 'tuk hadapinya
Walau kadang ku goyah dan ragu
Kerasnya hati bantu aku 'tuk melangkah
    Seiring waktu yang terus berjalan
    Temani langkahku lewati semua
Kian pasti kini arah ku tuju
Dan takkan ku lupa masa yang lalu
    Rintangan 'kan s'lalu datang menghadang
    Tak mudah bagiku 'tuk hadapinya
Walau kadang ku goyah dan ragu
Kerasnya hati bantu aku 'tuk melangkah
    Lepaslah semua duka kini
Buanglah resah yang ada di diri
    Lepaslah asa ragu kini
    Teruskan langkah terus ku berlari
    Rintangan kan s'lalu datang menghadang
    Tak mudah bagiku 'tuk hadapinya
Walau kadang ku goyah dan ragu

I think like any other martial art, it depends on the teacher and the method, and the outcome

and anyways, no matter the martial art, self defense demos all have the same feel - whether its BJJ or kung fu. Its always slow motion, not completely live.

and to add to the "deadly techniques" argument, if someone has never brought it up (I am new so I dont know if I am beating a dead horse), but you dont need to execute a technique for real to know that its deadly.

Do you really need to get kicked in the jewels to know that its deadly?
Do you need to shoot someone in the head, to know that a gun can kill someone?

Its rather silly, when I hear the other end of the spectrum about - "if its so deadly, how come they don't use it - I need footage for proof". I don't need to fully execute a BJJ arm bar to know it can break someone's arm, because you are bending it the wrong way...

Anyways, I dont know that much Silat, I learned a couple techniques before, and they were all takedowns, which ended in a submission lock or a stomp or punch to the person on the ground. Its a pretty good martial art, and takes hard work, like any other martial art, to get any effectiveness.

LOL...the real question is why I typed seriously in the Comedy section (YMAS):jihad1:

Man, you know your martial art is shitty if you have to start name dropping to get people to believe in it.
You know where you can find effective Silat?

Apparently by travelling out to some depressed former mining town in the midwest to train with the family from The Hills Have Eyes. Every other Silat school is just weak, commercialized bullshit that's about as authentic as cream cheese sushi from the Safeway deli.

You know where you can find effective BJJ?

    Any fucking BJJ academy ever.

I could give a **** about getting people to "believe in it". Anyone that's trained with a good Silat teachers knows it. Just like any art.

& if Donn Draeger's opinion is "name dropping", then I'd like to be able to drop that name. Nobody's gonna be dropping your name any time soon. DD's a fucking god compared to your ass.

Yeah, give it 600 years. I'm sure we'll be seeing some bullshit out of BJJ. Oh, wait, we already are. How many BJJ fakirs are out there already??? Count 'em up, son.

Stupidity, gullibility, emotional/mental problems (too much of the 'good' life), arrogance, and brainwashing. Check that link I posted earlier. I

Unfortunately it seems to be something that seems common. Even the Silat columns in the mainstream martial art publications give me a creepy feeling. One of the more popular schools (East West Studios) that are regularly featured, I rang up told me they 'don't just take anyone'.

A former friend of mine in Ireland went through a Cimande School and when he tried to leave because he couldn't afford lessons was challenged to a fight. I've met my share of arrogant idiots in the sports martial art world but never heard the stories of the cultish vibes I've heard about and experienced in Silat and TMAs.

This thread is bringing up my disgust for the TMA culture again.
