I saw some hard throws, good strike there and the trainning in the episode seemed intense...

I agree, the sport Silat builds some great fundamentals

So let me get this straight. When M Tripp did a demo with Moose and Moose let him demo the throw this was theatrics also?

So when a teacher has to demonstrate how to apply something that is also theatrics?

Be consistant in your judgements thats the first thing.

Understand context... the Shamrock brothers practice plenty before going at it hammer and thongs yes? Teachers often teach and expect compliancy to do so.

Understand context? We're on a thread that has stipulated dozens of times that compliant demos are not the goal, that theatrics are not proper evidence, that there are plenty of compliant Silat videos, and that none of these are desired or useful to this discussion.

That's the context I was operating in.

As for Moose and Tripp: to my recollection I neither saw nor commented on it. Same with Shamrock. If you want to have a discussion about the validity of compliant demos in general, then I'd say start another thread.

Briefly, my opinion is that there's nothing intrinsically wrong with compliant demos, but they don't prove anything about fighting or function. Since this thread is about proof, fighting, and function, I am unclear as to how compliant demos are a useful thing to post.

Mr. Tripp osoto-ing the bejeezus out of Moose is okay because we can fill this thread ten times over with evidence of athletic, fully resisting, trained grapplers getting the bejeezus osoto'd out of them.

Coming from someone who has very limited MA experience (Karate basics and some BJJ holds) and no experience with Silat whatsoever, to me it appears to be like Traditional Chinese martial art systems, it has useful parts that might work in a more updated system i.e: Sanda plus its emphasis on weapon particularly knives, however l doubt we'll be seeing a traditional Silat practitioner win MMA fights any time soon.

Of course some would use the whole street fight argument to show how "badass deadly" Silat is, while having a martial art background is a good thing to have, it isn't always relevant in a street brawl. By the way, I consider the old BJJ is to be the true art for the streets argument to be total BS (remember how Bob Sapp slammed Big Nog in the ring? Imagine if that happened on cement or a guard rail)
