A member of the Bartitsu Society has just created a PDF of Edmund Price's "Science of Self Defence" (1867). It's a concise manual of basic bare-knuckle boxing, including some of the standing grappling that was part of pugilism back in the day and a bit of physical culture advice - http://220.127.116.11/~tudzacom/The_Sc...lf_Defence.pdf
Price was an interesting guy, a former prize-fighter who had great success later in life as a lawyer. There's a 1907 New York Times obituary for him, including reminiscences about some of his street-fighting escapades, at http://query.nytimes.com/gst/abstrac...649C946697D6CF

I read about peeps like this and it makes me feel like a boring old turd! Cool stuff!
