I always did find supreme irony in the fact that many of the people I protect prefer to live in a fantasy world where no one really wants to do them any harm and being nice to people is the answer to every conflict.

Flower power. Even you have to admit you wish the fantasies were real and that your kids could walk the streets safely. People want to believe what makes them happy. To look down on them for that is cynicism.

There is quite a bit of truth in that.
I did however also feel, there's also quite a few on the opposite end, who really do enjoy the nastier aspects and are in it for the thrills, and well get a kick out of hurting bystanders and ****.

I don't know if this makes any sense, but it's kind of an issue here, at least in my book.

I agree. These are the people the hippies need to be protected from.

I always felt there were (and are) more of these in the service than the hippies, and often I wished we had a few more of the latter.

I think it's hard to compare, cause the military situation here is different, what with a mandatory draft and the kind of stuff the military has to do and all... but that's completely off-topic so I'll just leave it.
