The street argument is retarded. BJJ is so much overkill for the street that its ridiculous. Unless you're the idiot that picks a fight with the high school wrestling team, barring knife or gun play, the opponent shouldn't make it past double leg + ground and pound - Osiris

Rucass - that's a great find. The other videos on his channel are just as good.

    Thanks for posting.

    Well, thank you all.

I've not checked this thread in a while.

But since posting, I've been booked in for an MRI and specialist, which is good. Hopefully I can get a report on the state of my neck.

But, I've also been to Active Feet, who got me running, checked my feet and style, and recommended a good pair of runners. I tried them around the block, on concrete: they felt fantastic.

If the MRI and specialist results are good, I'll drop in, pick up my new New Balance, and hit the track/grass/pavement.

And I've also tried to make my running style more...er..'runny' (i.e. not like walking).

    nicely done sir!
Many things we do naturally become difficult only when we try to make them intellectual subjects. It is possible to know so much about a subject that you become totally ignorant.

OK. The MRI results are in.

The radiologist reports 'at c3/4...mild broad based disc protrusion causing mild indentation to the anterior aspect of the cord.'

In plain English: the disc between my third and fourth vertebrae is bulging, and bumping my spinal cord. (And they call Judo 'the gentle way'.)

The other cervical discs are mildly protruded, but the cord seems fine. There's some minor wear to the c5/6 facets, but nothing serious.

The specialist thinks all this is relatively minor, and shouldn't stop me running. She was less sanguine about Judo.

So: I now have my new New Balance runners.

    It's on.
