Going out on a limb here I'm going to say it's because the guy on top generally has good base, possibly superior wrestling or jiujitsu to the guy on bottom. That's generally how they ended up on top in the first place unless the jits dude pulled guard... And if you pull guard in an MMA match and don't immediately sweep or sub then you deserve anything that happens to you.
Sweep attempts are difficult enough against other skilled opponents when they AREN'T punching you in the head. -

Well for one thing, every one of those guys is devoting training time to wrestling, so there is probably some benefit to their base. That and the fact that its MMA and not ADCC.
Edit: Doh! Kinaton your too fast for me.

I can only think of one example of an strong wrestler getting swept in sub wrestling (Dennis Hall by Joao Roque). Can anyone think of an example from MMA? I can't.Now darkness comes; you don't know if the whales are coming. - Royce Gracie

About a million. Franca swept Sherk. Carlos Newton swept Hughes and BJ went to his back which is roughly the same thing. Lindland got swept by Lutter when they fought. Couture got swept by Barnett and IIRC by Ricco. Henderson got swept by both Nog's, Bustamente, Vitor. That's just off the top of my head.
Strong wrestlers that have never been swept in MMA? Maybe St Pierre?
What makes you think wrestlers don't get swept in sub wrestling? -
