    Ground sweeping in the UFC

Why are there so few sweeps and sweep attemps in the UFC? For as many guys who are supposed to be black belt jiu-jitsu experts, i would think there would be many more more simple sweep attempts. I know it's completely different at home watching (currently injured) than competing, but so often i see that the bottom man will have control of the potential sweep side arm and many times has trapped the sweep side leg but takes a pounding and never goes for the sweep. Or goes for a sweep once and gives up for the rest of the fight? What gives?

Going out on a limb here I'm going to say it's because the guy on top generally has good base, possibly superior wrestling or jiujitsu to the guy on bottom. That's generally how they ended up on top in the first place unless the jits dude pulled guard... And if you pull guard in an MMA match and don't immediately sweep or sub then you deserve anything that happens to you.
Sweep attempts are difficult enough against other skilled opponents when they AREN'T punching you in the head.

Well for one thing, every one of those guys is devoting training time to wrestling, so there is probably some benefit to their base. That and the fact that its MMA and not ADCC.

Edit: Doh! Kinaton your too fast for me.

I can only think of one example of an strong wrestler getting swept in sub wrestling (Dennis Hall by Joao Roque). Can anyone think of an example from MMA? I can't.

In MMA It has something to do with the fact that you're opponent is generally trying to punch you in the face.

in order to control the upper body you have to tkae your hands away from your face. Unless you are very fast and explisive, you are going to take hits, which will disrupt your sweep.
There is no cheating, there is only jiu-jitsu.

About a million. Franca swept Sherk. Carlos Newton swept Hughes and BJ went to his back which is roughly the same thing. Lindland got swept by Lutter when they fought. Couture got swept by Barnett and IIRC by Ricco. Henderson got swept by both Nog's, Bustamente, Vitor. That's just off the top of my head.

Strong wrestlers that have never been swept in MMA? Maybe St Pierre?

What makes you think wrestlers don't get swept in sub wrestling?

Why are there so few Mortal Kombat style uppercuts in UFC?

And when was the last time you saw someone throw a hadouken?

And what's the deal with Phil Baroni?

I just flew in from Rio, and boy are my arms barred.

    Thank you.
