UFC Fight Night - Condit vs Kampmann Apr-1-2009 8pm ET/PT

UFC Fight Night - Condit vs Kampmann Apr-1-2009 8pm ET/PT

    Date Time: Apr-1-2009 8pm ET/PT
    Event Type: UFC Fight Night
    Location: Sommet Center, TN

    Description:

The Ultimate Fighting Championship® is proud to announce its first-ever event in Nashville, Tennessee. Music City has never seen hard-hitting action like this as many of the rising stars in the sport of mixed martial arts will be featured in a LIVE nationwide event on Spike TV Wednesday, April 1 at 9:00p.m. ET/PT for UFC® Fight Night™ from the Sommet Center.

    Carlos Condit Vs. Martin Kampmann
    Efrain Escudero Vs. Jeremy Stephens
    Ryan Bader Vs. Carmelo Marrero
    Junie Browning Vs. Cole Miller
Tyson Griffin Vs. Rafael dos Anjos
    Ricardo Almeida Vs. Matt Horwich
    Brock Larson Vs. Jesse Sanders
    Jorge Rivera Vs. Nissen Osterneck
    Rob Kimmons Vs. Joe Vedepo
    Tim McKenzie Vs. Aaron Simpson
    Steve Steinbeiss Vs. Ryan Jensen

This should be a great main event, Carlos Condit was the last WEC welterweight champion, here he takes on Dutch kickboxer Martin Kampmann who currently trains with Team Couture. Rafael dos Anjos showcased an exciting grappling style in his last fight, but unfortunately we can expect it to be stifled against Tyson Griffen. Jorge Rivera still fights? I thought he retired!

    Picks!?

The last 3 are random guesses, but I feel pretty good about the others.

Escudero is out, Gleison Tibau is replacing him for the fight. This is posted at m m a j u n k i e if you want to check. Apparently, Escudero has a rib injury.

kampmann, tibau, bader, miller, griffin, almeida, larson, OSTERNECK, kimmons, simpson, jensen

albeit, i've never seen any footage of mckenzie, simpson, or steinbeiss. i have quite a lot of faith in osterneck to win his fight against rivera.

jensen looked good against gouveia so that's why i'm picking him... his ufc run hasn't been easy (maia, leites, gouveia).

Kampmann and condit are kind of big deals. Kampmann's got some of the most technical MT in MMA, and excellent submissions. Condit ripped the WEC welterweight rankings a new asshole, including a big candidate for fight of the year last year.

In any organization other than the UFC, this would be the title fight. These guys are both incredibly talented and will likely be contenders within 2-3 fights.

    Kampmann

Martin is former Cage Warriors middleweight champion(2005), FB-Submission Wrestling Tournament Champ +77 kg class(2004), Battle of the Vikings Thai Boxing Superfight Champ(2004) and Danish Thai Boxing Champion(2001).

Condit is on an 8-fight winning streak

Both of them have finished every fight they've ever won.

Hmmm. With Efrain on the sidelines I still say Stephens can't put an opponent away. If anything Tibau will beat him even worse than Efrain would have.

Yeah but that is one fight. usually they have people who will bring a bigger draw, even to the fight nights. I am going to still watch it because i think alof ot the less well known guys put on better fights, but i think it is strange going with these guys as the main event.

For the rest we have to TUF winners, Tyson Griffin (always in the LW top 10), the number one WEC contender, and two people that made big splashes on their TUF season.

Yes, but we probably know a wider range of fighters than the average person. I am thinking in terms of how to bring in the casual viewer
