What size gloves?

I'm having the hardest time finding out what size boxing glove I should be using, I weigh 160 pounds and I'm 5'9'' anyone know a good size glove for someone my size.

for what purpose? sparring? bag work? ring fights?

if you can only buy one pair of gloves, then get a pair of 14oz safety boxing gloves (designed for sparring and pad work, but they are fine for bag work.) don't get gloves that are smaller than 14oz for sparring, at your size. bigger guys should wear 16oz.

if you have more money and want your sparring gloves to last longer, then buy some bag gloves as well. there are a lot of different types of bag gloves depending on what you are looking for.

I'll second the 14oz recommendation as well as finding a good all-around glove to start out.

I have always loved the Fairtex BGV1 gloves. They are great both on the bag and in sparring. The 'feel' in the finger cavity (snicker) is one of the best that I've ever felt. There is not a lot of wrist support, but it is good enough for me and helps reinforce good form; don't let gear compensate for bad technique. Choices of 12oz and 14oz. I'd suggest the 14oz.

Warning: they are relatively pricey but last for a long time.

If you trained at a real school they would tell you what gloves to get. Most places want you wearing 16oz gloves for sparring.

Yes, but he's not sparring. No need for 16oz gloves just for whacking a wavemaster.

Seriously though, if you are 120 or under you should be able to spar with 14oz gloves (IMHO). Anyone bigger than that should be using 16's.

Mostly I'm trolling him because he still doesn't train at a real school or even train in what he puts in his damn style field.

P.S. Again, OP you need to modify your style field. You are not currently training in San Shou. By your own admission, you are properly trained in TKD only.
