Magazine release in AR15s and AK's

This is a noob question but the internet won't answer me.

I live in liberal hippie NZ (It's a good thing I think), I've always wondered how one releases a clip on an M16 or an AK. Can it just be pulled out, or is there a release button like on the side of a pistol? Do the magazines themselves have little release clips?

Sorry for such a shitty question, but I've always wondered and never found out how.

    Thanks, obliged.

There's a world of difference between what we get to hunt with here, vs what you guys get.

We don't typically hunt with M16s or AKs.

Excepting hippy season, which runs year long and there is no limit.

Right and don't confuse clip with magazine. Some gun folks get uptight about that.

M16s have a push-button release. AKs have a nifty lever set-up. Both have advantages and disadvantages.
I'm not giving you my opinion, I'm telling you how it is.

Unless slower mag changes are a positive, I really can't think of any advantages that the AK setup would have over the AR.

To the OP: If you look at this picture of a C7, which is essentially the same weapon as an m16, you can see a raised button just above and forward of the trigger. If you push this in, the magazine slides right out of the weapon. You then slide the new magazine into the mag well until it clicks into place.

If there was still a round in the chamber when you performed the mag change you can just carry on firing from there.
If the weapon was empty, the bolt will have locked back and you can release it with either the bolt catch on the left side of the weapon or by pulling the cocking handle. When the bolt goes forward it chamber a round and away you go.

On the outside. Inside it's a Ferrari racing a Honda Civic ;)
You are not free whose liberty is won by the rigour of other, more righteous souls. Your are merely protected. Your freedom is parasitic, you suck the honourable man dry and offer nothing in return. You who have enjoyed freedom, who have done nothing to earn it
