I've just watched Stork's video containing tamashigiri.

Wait, there will be an accident soon. I've been involved in koryu iai long enough to recognise someone's going to get cut. The only real question is.. how bad the injury will be.

Perhaps stork needs to research "Don Rice"

    Speaking of...

WTF is that downward stabbing thrust thing he does before he re-sheathes ? What is it that he believes he's doing?

Someone asked this in the comment section of one of his sword videos. I believe he said the motion was to get all the blood off the blade before re-sheathing.

thats what I was always taught back when I did kendo/iaido

at the end of every iaido kata I ever learned there was some sort of "flick" like that. I was told it was to get the "blood" off

From what VERY little Iaido I learned, that flick is called chiburi, and it's supposed to be a simple flick, more symbolic than anything else. The way our Mountaneous Larposae specimen does it goes well in line with his plastic guns and ski masks.

Right now I'm working under the assumption that Stork is concious of the fact that his militia member/super soldier theme larping is make believe, but I wouldn't be surprised if this changes. He already believes he is a ninja. If he can lie to himself to the point that he believes he is a ninja, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that he starts believing his own **** regarding being a militia man.

I wouldn't be surprised if he attempts to form his own militia in a few years.

    Ah... chiburi.

I gave the video a quick watch. It's so awful, I'll need to go back and watch it in glorious detail.

The hit to the tsuka is something Hatsumi does many times. I don't recall ever seeing the downward stab motion the way Stork does it. I have no idea how that's supposed to work.

I'd heard from one source that the chiburi "flick" was considered somewhat insulting. I don't know if that's true, but if anyone knows for sure, I'm curious. I would bet Hatsumi's flair for the dramatic and background in acting has much to do with his practice of chiburi.

I'd also heard that the flick would never get all the blood off the blade, and you need to wipe it clean. This, I'm more inclined to believe.

ARRRRGHGHHHH! Don;t give him any ideas!

If he goes coast guard, he'll probably get training @ a mile from my house.

That's just too close for comfort. I don't want to catch the larp.

He'd fit in with the Pot Bellied Soldiers known as the National Guard.
