    Hell yeah! Hell no!

Advice on getting cut without losing strength

I weigh around 160 pounds and am about five ft 9 inches tall. I have a pretty athletic build but am not quite as cut as I would like to be. I think if i got down to about 152-155 range that would put me about where I want to be. I train MMA and have always figured I would like to fight at 145, but I'm not really worrying about that, because that is a good ways away.
I weight lift 5 days a week. This is the weight training program I do at my school, If I had my choice I wouldn't set it up like this, but I have no choice.

monday legs squats, straight leg deadlift, lunges tuesday
push Push Bench Press, Close Grip, Military press
    wednesday pull Powercleans, rows, pullups
    thursday legs
    friday Push

    My maxes are as follows
squat- 315 well bellow parallel but not quite a full squat
    bench- 215
    Clean- 215

My martial arts training is 3 days a week, usually moderate intesity for an average of about 1.5 hours.

I usually eat 6 meals per day

breakfast 7 am- usually oatmeal and a fruit, sometimes its not always this healthy
snack 11 am- usually a whey protein shake
lunch 1 pm- usually a BIG sandwich with ham or turkey lettuce and cheese, allong with a fruit, and some chips of some sort
snack 3:30 pm- Usually either a vegatable or another protein shake
dinner 6pm- this can varry allot, its just whatever my mom fixes.
snack 9pm- usually yogurt or cottage cheese and a handfull of peanuts.

I realize I have given allot of information probably an annoying ammount, but I figure the more info i provide the better advice I can get. I realize I obviously need to lower my calorie intake slightly to loose weight, I don't feel like a have a fast metabolism at all. I have to work out allot not to put on weight, I have a very large appetite all the time. How can I loose these few last pounds without loosing muscle, and what can I do to controll my hunger, I eat so much, I am ALWAYS hungry.

How old are you? You sound like you are still growing. Don't try cutting yet. Just eat big and lift/train a lot.

You don't need to diet at your height/weight. You need to eat and lift. Don't cheat yourself out of some of the best and biggest muscle gains you will ever get, by eating small.

I would kill to go back to being 18 knowing what I know now about lifting and diet...
And lo, Kano looked down upon the field and saw the multitudes. Amongst them were the disciples of Uesheba who were greatly vexed at his sayings. And Kano spake: "Do not be concerned with the mote in thy neighbor's eye, when verily thou hast a massive stick in thine ass".

This is simple. That diet you have has no where near enough protein in it.

Thank you for the advice. Do you think If I modify my diet to eat more and start gaining that after a few months when I have put on some muscle and of course a little fat, that it might be a little easier to cut down? Also do you think I will be able to pack on much muscle with this weight lifting program?

I have read several studies saying the whole "you need twice your body weight in grams of protein" is completely unnecessary. I don't know it seems a little ridiculous to me unless you are a body builder, I thought I was getting plenty in my diet. But If I decide to try and start packing on some muscle instead of cutting I will obviously add some more protein.

Try to get at least 1g per lbs of lean body weight. Notice I mention lean not total. Cottage cheese, chicken, tuna, and protein shakes are going to be your friends.

Also dont worry about maxes at all. You need to be focused on quality movements and form. You want to lift while being explosive and controlling the weight.

Why do so many want to loase weight to get cut?
    Try gaining some muscle!

Also, what does it mean when you do "legs" and "push"?

You are proabably hurting gains doing legs Mon-Thurs. No, you are hurting gains like that AFAIK.

Also, as far as your last post saying that the 2x your weight in lbs for protein is only for bodybulders.....guess what....you want to get cut. That is a bodybuilding goal and bodybuilder's will have the best methods for that.

How are those mutually exclusive? I ONLY worry about my maxes in my main lifts (bench dead, leg press, weighted pullup, etc). How I get those maxes to increase varies a lot over time, but the only number I care about in the end is that max, that it increases.

Also, add some isoalations in. When I add in isolations I get more development in the muscles as striations and such.

I made a mistake on my weight lifting routine, I corrected it. We squat Tuesday and Friday. Again If I was deciding my own lifting split, it would not be like this.
