So I watched a lot of very high quality grappling at this today.
My adopted white belt got a bronze, a lot of teammates got medals, saw a very interesting entry into a toehold that I'm definitely going to try to steal.
Also, saw a guy take a flying knee to the face from someone trying to pass his guard. He freaked out, started shouting obscenities, power-reversed the guy and started punching from inside the guard. During a gi BJJ match.
That all sounds pretty awesome.
I wish i could have made it, but I just didn't have the money. Wonder how My team did...
Plus, i am hellaciously sick, so its probably for the best.
I can't wait to get blue, so i can adopt me a white belt :)
I didnít c it but I heard about it. Two women tried to jump guard at the same time and both of them ended up landing flat on their asses with their legs intertwined.
someone post the xerxes scissoring video.
It was kind of a bummer for me.
Single elimination tournament, I lost my first match by kimura.
I had established the half guard lockdown, and when I went for the underhook the guy just reached back and grabbed my arm. I tried to straighten my arm and then squirm out of it but the guy was to strong. At least it will give me something to work on over the next couple of weeks.
But at least the rest of the day was action packed.
Other than the excellent grappling in the advanced divisions, I got to meet Mike Brown and Forrest Griffin and got to see Eddie Bravo and Miguel Torres coaching their guys up close.
Single Elimination? wow.
See, i usually take a match or two to get warmed up. Its a bad habit to get into, sure, but its what usually happens. Single elimination tournaments piss me off!
Single elimination sucks, but in this case probably necessary.
I think there were something like 1500 competitors, the place was packed.
I left at around 4:15 and they were still doing no-gi.
Bravo was there? I missed him completely, crap.
And speaking of Xerxes, who was the guy wandering around with shaved head and shaved eyebrows in the leather?
Bravo was on mat 3 (featherweight) for a couple of hours (maybe like 2:00-4:00) surrounded by a bunch of guys wearing 10th planet gear. His guys were pulling off some sick moves.

It was an awesome event I got to watch a little bit of everything. Grappling, Muay Thai, San Shou, Kickboxing, Pankration, Boxing they pretty much had it all. Afterwards I walked around and managed to get my picture with Matt Hughes, Shonie Carter, Forrest Griffin and Bas Rutten. Good Times!!
