I like the set up in the Crow gif. He fakes a jab and throws the kick. That's how I set it up but, nowhere near that good.

The two gif have the recipient in vastly different positions which lead different results. First guy never saw it and came right into it, second guy saw it and was able to circle out.

From my point....if landed properly, you can never FULLY extend it, but I have seen people train it into their natural reaction that they immediately return the kick upon feeling impact.

Sorry if I didn't clarify that point.

I just want to clarify that I am nto saying you shouldn't try and "Kick thrugh' the person just that as in a hook to the body people use the plhrase "Dig" or "shovel" to emphasis the fact you are punching through the target with out to push your arm through the same thing with the spinning back kick.

It definitely is a strange thing to get used to being in close and basicly turning your back on the guy, you have to be confident and committed.

The full extension thing is also in part the difference between a standing(aka spinning) back kick and a jump back kick. With the jump back kick, all the power comes from the hip rotation. Because you are up in the air when it lands, extending it fully just throws you further away from your opponent and leaves you off balance when you land. With the standing back kick, once you make contact, you can push off with your standing leg as you extend your kicking leg and get more penetration.

This is why I love Bullshido.

You guys figure out a way to accurately describe something in words that generally is impossible to do and usually must be shown and felt.

Oh here's a good set up I use sometime

If I am fighting a skipper - you know someone who dances in a circle.

So for example if the guy is skipping away to my right (his left) I throw a back kick of my right leg ( I am left side forward) to the right of him (his left) - not actually trying to hit, but planting my right leg and throwing the shortened spinning back to where the guy is skipping to.

Yes, that is always a good set up. Unless they're anticipating it, of course. The slip and round kick counter can be a bitch.
