    whats the most powerful commonly available revolver with a compatible pistol ammo carbine, and how much am I looking at to get a decent one?

    I'll go ahead and play a little. TS: revolver ammo is pretty much rimmed (assuming the revolver isn't cut for moon clips) and I'm not aware of any modern carbines that use rimmed ammo. With that in mind you want to use rimless ammo, ie 9mm, 40, .45, etc which is semi automatic pistols. Pistol calibre rifles are nothing but more accurate pistols as far as perfromance but a common combo in that regard is a 9mm handgun and a 9mm AR, Kel-tec, or even HK if you have the money to waste.

    That's a rimmed bullet. Works great in a replica winchester 1873 lever action (something like that I'm not a cowboy action shooter) rifle if that's your idea of a modern fighting carbine.
