What started as a groin pull ( I thought ) I injured on 11/20/08, has been diagnosed after an MRI at the Hospiital for Special Surgery as a hip labral tear as well as "other cronic issues" in my hip. Dam just freakin great! Never had one problem with the hip prior to this injury, and I have been training in MA's on and off for approx 17yrs.
I have an appointment with the othorpidic surgean next week to talk about my options, but I was wondering if anyone here has had a similiar injury before, and how they treated it. My main concern is when I can get back to training.......safely. I have tried BJJ class a couple of times since the injury, but just working on tech and not fully training has me a bit depressed. I m just iching to get back into training fully. anyway just found out /end rant

I would definately hold off on doing anything until after you talk to the surgeon. Sounds awful, good luck and get well.

Roughly same time served in MA.. but man that sucks.
I think you can put off scratching that itch for just one more week. Do not roll.

Aye, havent rolled since november, was hoping the MRI would comeback showing nothing wrong, so I could start training again. I mean it hurts, but I thought maybe playing from half guard or something, and working threw the pain. Was gonna start hiting the heavy bag tonite also. dam this realy blows.
Going to wait till after I speak to the surgeon to think about training, from what I read on the net maybe PT can help dont know yet though. Surgery wouldnt be so bad, they would use a scope rehab approx 6 - 8 weeks, from what the nurse was telling me on the phone. Find out next week for sure though.
Merry Christmas! shitter's full...

i hate that for you. definately making the right choice in not playing through the pain. you don't want to make a bad situation worse.
good luck, i hope you recover in short order, and keep posting your progress.
