Coupling with all the fine suggestions thus far, I use:
Burt's Bees Comfrey which is now sold under this name:
Doctor' Burts Res-Q Ointment
It helps take some of the bite out of a new bruise and it seems like they heal up faster.

http://www.lucaspapaw.com.au/ ? I found this helped with my bruising...from the mat, and, uh, succubus tendencies.
If they are hurty—I ice first, then use heat (heat pack, or something similar) a day or so later to disperse the bruising. -
