These problems could all be avoided if fights were held on an infinite plane.

The cameras would all be on little robot helicopters.

Why not plexiglass, and see through floors. Works for tourist attractions. Fish bowl fighting...

Under Water too!!! with goldfish! Seriously some one needs to invent some kind of underwater fighting style now! It'd be awesome! Although, why not just go the extra step and do astronaught fu! The ring should be the infinite expanse of OUTER SPACE!

You obviously missed the part where Henzick Gracie invented BJJ in a swimming pool.

And, more importantly, a cage would have taken away Rudy Abel's last bad excuse. (If someone mentions his name two more times now, he will appear!)

    No way!

The ring is much better than a cage.

The lack of walls prevents fighters from using a Randy Couture style clinch game to neutralize most stand up striking, meaning that in a ring, fighters have to have better kick-boxing skills, better control of space (both because opponents are harder to trap but also they don't want to be reset by the refs) and the submission game has to be better because its harder to GnP when there is no wall to trap your opponents against.

Id take a superior submission game and striking at the cost of more technical clinch fighting and GnP. Waaay more interesting to watch.

A ring is also better for the reputation of MMA amongst lay people and, as has already been said, makes for better spectator-ing.

    Huzzaaahhh for the ring!

By the way Cage wins. I feel something like falling out of the ring should not interupt the fight its sort of ridiculous. But when your grappling I can see how its possible.
